Listener email - Parenting - The fear of failing.
Ah perfection! What young parent doesn't set this as the expectation for their parenting journey? How can I be the perfect father? How can I be the perfect Mother?
One of the greatest lessons I have learned is this, the goal is excellence not perfection.
With that in mind, how do we overcome the fear of failing our children? I know thats a great question, and it's one I address directly in today's episode. Should your children want for nothing?
One of the more important questions facing parents today is truly; What type of human being do you want to raise? From my POV setting a standard and living that standard is one of the most meaningful things you as a parent can do. The world our children of today are growing up in is littered with confusion on topics that for millennia are simple common sense, couple that with an unhealthy sense of entitlement and you have the makings for a very selfish generation. Listen! I am not making the case parents are doing this on purpose, I like you want what's best for my children, the challenge is if we try and solve all of their problems and prevent them from feeling a sense of disappointment and or failure, we are doing them a disservice. We must prepare them for the journey of life, it is vital we lead with love. The question is; "What does that look like"?
